DESIGN OVERVIEW:

With a strong base of “family friendly” I aimed to create a fun & lively living room that they could call ‘theirs”.
The Scandinavian aesthetic help ensure a bright & fresh feeling especially when teamed with the natural oak through the room that is also a feature of the style.

All pieces were chosen with family in mind, taking into consideration safety, maintenance & longevity.

Most pieces having rounded edges to ensure the safety of young children.  The side table in round & has a draw for storage of remotes & drink coasters ect.  The couch & armchairs are both made of a stretch free, non-absorbable fabric with  a 10 year warranty. The several timber accents around the room will be hardwearing & not require much maintenance. However the high gloss TV unit may need a quick wipe over regularly to rid it of any fingerprints, but its high quality will ensure that it stays the stunning piece that it is.

It was important that I made the space kid friendly without being to over bearing; I want to ensure that the room has the ability to grow with the kids and family to ensure that it is functional for many years to come.

Remembering that there are 3 boys in the house and the brief of a forever home for a splash of colour I choose and calming mustard and native tones of green.  As opposed to baby blue and pastel pinks as it may make the room feel to feminine and also will date quicker.

Scattered family photos, figurines & any sentimental pieces help create personality & give it a more homely feel.

The two horse artworks I have chosen feature stunning images from Icelandic photographer GiGja Einarsdottir they will fit perfectly with the Scandinavian style while the animals create interest for children.

The strong textures & continual subtle chances of tone help to create depth & flow within the room. The panelled feature wall with the floating timber shelf will be a real standout & three overhanging pendants will give the option of more light.

Favourite books & magazine can be placed in the floating bookshelves & toy storage can be found in the ottoman & also the 3 large draws in the low line TV unit. The TV is wall mounted to keep it out of reach of preying little hands which also mean the cords will be internal to the walls, as the TV unit is butted up against two walls this ensure that all other cords will be hidden.

Two floor rugs will help to add warmth and also creates “spaces” with in the room, while a fiddle leaf tree and various greenery arrangements will bring life to the room.

I have chosen a light grey block out roller blind for the window as it will provide privacy, help keep the warmth or cool in & have the ability to block out the light if you wish. For added softness & texture combining the blinds with sheer curtains will also give you the option to have privacy but let some light thru. For the sliding door I believe the best option is sliding panel block out blinds when open they will pile against the wall behind the armchair leaving the door fully open to light & when closed can fully block out the light.

The paint has been pick will the feature of easily cleaned atop the list and a mix of matte and high gloss finishes will complement the textures throughout the room.

New flooring will help bring the room to life; the cork boards are a very sustainable option, soft underfoot and give the look of timber without the price tag. While the colour iv choose will blend in softly and won’t take away from the furniture.

Most pieces are Australian made and all have been sourced from rewritable Australian distributors that ensure sustainability, quality and of their products.  In terms of lead times, the longest is 4 weeks, which still fits well into our timeline.
